Professional Barber visits Beacon College!
Fri 13 Feb 2026On Thursday 12th February 2026 we were thrilled to welcome Chris Davies from Ye Olde Barber Shop, Hereford, who delivered an engaging hairdressing demonstration for our students.
As part of our ongoing careers education programme, Chris spoke about the skills, training, and real‑life experiences required to become a professional barber. Students learned about everything from customer care and communication skills to precision cutting techniques and the day‑to‑day realities of running a successful barbershop.
What made the visit especially valuable was Chris’ supportive and calming approach. For many of our learners, visiting a barbershop can feel overwhelming due to sensory, communication, or anxiety‑related needs. By bringing the barbershop experience into a familiar environment, Chris helped students build confidence, ask questions and better understand what to expect during a haircut.
The demonstration was informative and tailored brilliantly to the needs of our young people. We are incredibly grateful to Chris for giving his time, expertise, and encouragement — and for helping remove barriers so our students can feel more comfortable accessing everyday community services.
👏 A huge thank you to Chris from Olde Barber Shop in Hereford for inspiring the next generation!

Hereford Health Watch visit Beacon College
Fri 13 Feb 2026🌟 A Fantastic Day at Beacon College! 🌟
Today we were delighted to welcome Toni and Mary from Healthwatch Herefordshire to Beacon College for a brilliant and engaging visit! Students had the opportunity to learn about two meaningful projects designed to empower their voices and broaden their awareness of community well-being:

Beacon students run Hereford Christmas Market on Friday 12th December 2025
Fri 12 Dec 2025On Friday 12th December, Beacon students proudly showcased their creativity at the Hereford Christmas Market.
As part of their social enterprise sessions this term, students designed and crafted a range of unique items which they sold to the public. The market was a huge success, with every student enthusiastically taking part. From serving customers and handling money to explaining how their products were made, they demonstrated confidence, teamwork, and fantastic communication skills.
The event wasn’t just about selling – it was about building independence, celebrating achievement, and sharing their talents with the wider community. The smiles, conversations, and positive feedback from shoppers made the day truly special.
We’re incredibly proud of all our students for their hard work and dedication. Their success at the Christmas Market is a wonderful reminder of what can be achieved when creativity meets opportunity!

Beacon College students begin their Supported Internship placements
Wed 24 Sep 2025Last week Sodexo at Hereford Hospital welcomed three Beacon College interns to join their team taking part in their Supported Internship as part of DFN Project Search!
DFN Project Search is a national charity that enables young adults who have a learning disability or autism spectrum condition to secure meaningful permanent employment with support from our Job Coach Sam Rodgerson.
The Accordia Academies Trust team have been working closely with Sodexo and Project Search colleagues to ensure a successful launch of this exciting programme.
During their first week the interns completed their induction, met their buddies, had a hospital tour and completed other onboarding activities.
Each term the interns will rotate through the Sodexo teams within retail, patient dining and domestics services, working full time at Hereford Hospital across the entire academic year.
It is great to work with partner organisations who are able to support such a worthwhile initiative and we wish our interns every success in their roles!
If you're interested in Supported Internships please contact the college to discuss this programme.
